Wood Trim around Windows and Doors

Good morning folks, just thought I'd give you a little update on the trim work we are presently undertaking. My hubby did the floor trim in the master bedroom and living room right after we moved in, but we still had plenty yet to do. Funny... we pondered on whether to move out of our falling down trailer and into our new home early without having finished the trim, some painting and grouting of tile, etc OR waiting till EVERYTHING was done before we moved in. We agreed that we would get our new home done and not slow down if we moved in early... well, seems we just had to have around a 6 month break after we moved in. Folks, we just rested and enjoyed being here and didn't worry about finishing the grout, painting, and trim :) Doing this yourself is hard work, especially if you have a full time job.
But lately we've got back in the groove so to speak and off our rumps and are reporting for duty.
Now hubby and a friend have been finishing the trim around the windows and doors as well as the floor trim in 2 bedrooms. We got a great deal on 1 x 2's to use for our trim. Now I said that hubby and a friend are putting up the trim but my job is sanding, staining and sealing. I just stained this trim around the pantry door last night and I think it looks great but hubby informed me this morning that we need another coat. The stain is Minwax natural #209 and the poly I will use is clear satin.

My latest quilt

Thought I'd put in a photo of this finished Dresden plate quilt I have been working on for the past year. It was a lot of work but surely worth the effort. I've quilted for many years but when we started building this house in 2006, I had to put my quilting on hold. Only lately have I found the time to take it back up again. I am currently working on a baby quilt for a friend. When I get it done I'll try to post a pic of it as well.

Island almost done

Photos of the island my husband is building. He is making this out of very thick ply board and pine 2X4's. I still have a lot of sanding to do as you can see. I have a matching Formica top to put on this island but after he got going on this I had the idea of maybe keeping the natural wood and choosing a natural wood stain. Maybe by the end of the week I will make up my mind. I'll add a photo when he has it done. We are thinking that wood flooring may look great in the kitchen but more on that later :)

Our Wood Stove

We're using a fisher fireplace insert for heating. This was used and given to us from someone who used it for their fireplace. My husband welded on the legs and it works like a charm! Since our home is so open, it really does a good job of keeping us warm. I am not sure of the model of this stove. It has the pine tree design on the front. I'm fairly sure that this insert is a fisher mama bear model.

I know, I've been missing in action

So many other things have been taking priority in my life friends. I've so neglected my blog. But here's where we are:

We have moved in! (More about this later in an upcoming post).
This photo is the finished bar. I chose the black grout and am so happy about the results. But I warn you if you have never used the black, it is the messiest choice of any other color under the sun. That's why it took much longer because of the cleaning time. I bet I cleaned my sponges 500 times before I finished. The whole project lasted about 6 hours altogether. Now I have bought my cement board and will be doing the kitchen backsplash next.

Tiling the Bar

I started tiling the bar a few days ago. I'm using white glazed ceramic 6x6 tiles. The grout will be a toss up between green tea and black. I need to make up my mind soon. Will take more photos when I start the grouting. I plan on going to look for kitchen shelving today and I need to find a very narrow but tall cabinet to put next to our electric range.
